The European eIDAS regulation took effect on September 29, 2018. From that moment on, public organizations and private organizations with a public task must accept European recognized login means within the digital services. This obligation applies, among other things, to organizations that use DigiD and eHerkenning. The European Union wants to regulate this to make it easier and safer to arrange affairs online within Europe.
More and more European countries are being added to eIDAS. For an accurate list of countries currently supported by eIDAS, click here!
At the moment JOIN e-Forms is the only Decos application that uses eIDAS. This login method makes it possible for people living outside the Netherlands to identify themselves and correctly fill in your online form.
eIDAS is not available by default in e-Forms. To gain access to eIDAS, please contact your account manager. You can of course contact them directly or leave a message at https://decos.nl/contact/.
To use eIDAS in your forms, you have to adapt the form in case types. By adding (or changing) a question “personal information” or “organization information”, the associated authentication means are displayed. DigiD is available as standard for “personal information” and eHerkenning for “organization information”. Customers who have purchased eIDAS will see these fields as an extra option under both question types. eIDAS can be used for both individuals and organizations.
The operation of eIDAS in the form is the same as DigiD and eHerkenning. The question for which eIDAS is enabled is shown in the application as follows:
If users of the form choose to log in with eIDAS, they will be redirected to a login page of the national government. On this page they can choose from which country they want to log in. They are then referred to the national login system of the country concerned.
After they have successfully logged in, a screen will be displayed where users can see which personal data is being requested. Depending on the application, it may be possible not to send certain data to the application.
After the login procedure has been completed, the requested personal data will be pre-filled in the e-Forms (where possible). An attempt will also be made to retrieve information from JOIN, based on the unique person / organization number that comes with the eIDAS login.
